THE team behind plans to bring a much-loved former cinema in Prestwick back to life has promised "major announcements" coming this week.
The Broadway in Main Street has been brought into community ownership and is being redeveloped into a cinema, multi-purpose entertainment venue, and inclusive space.
The cinema will open its doors on Saturday, February 3 to allow film-lovers to purchase tickets from the original ticket booth for the Friends of the Broadway's first showings of 2024 - a 'Rom-Com-a-Thon' - which will be held at Prestwick Academy.
The Friends, the charity behind the rebirth project, secured the perfect early Christmas present in mid-December when the Scottish Land Fund announced the award of £328,060 to the group to enable them to buy the building.
And they have also teased some big announcements coming this week.
A spokesperson said: "For the first time in 2024, you will be able to walk through the Broadway's Art Deco entrance this Saturday and purchase tickets for the Broadway Rom-Com-a-thon directly from our original ticket booth.
"Another original feature not seen in almost 50 years will also be revealed for the very first time, and our chief projectionist will be in attendance working on a very special arrival.
"Major announcements coming later this week!"
The foyer will be open between 10am and 5pm on Saturday.
The Rom-Com-a-Thon takes place from February 9-11 and will include screenings of Anyone But You, Notting Hill, Pretty Woman, Pillow Talk and Dirty Dancing.
The Friends' plans to buy the building also received a major boost last month after its previous owners, Ayrshire hospitality firm Buzzworks Group, agreed to reduce the sale price by a six-figure sum to enable the charity to take the property into community ownership.
