South Ayrshire Council will mark International Workers' Memorial Day on Friday, April 26 by unveiling a memorial bench at Rozelle Park in Ayr.

The public are welcome to attend the event, which takes place at 10am at Rozelle House.

International Workers' Memorial Day commemorates all workers who have lost their lives to workplace illness or injury.

The global initiative is also an opportunity to promote health and safety and minimise workplace incidents, many of which are preventable.

Depute Provost Mary Kilpatrick, who will take part in a short ceremony on the day, said: "It's important to remember those who have lost their lives, as well as acknowledge those who have experienced a work-related accident or injury.

"Whether you have experienced a workplace illness or bereavement, or even if you just want to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend."
