Troon star Mark Shankland has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.

The 28-year-old is the club's top scorer this season, with nine goals in 15 league games following his move from Auchinleck Talbot last summer.

Troon manager Jimmy Kirkwood was delighted Shankland has committed himself to Portland Park.

He said: "We worked hard to get Shankers in last summer, and he's repaid that with some great performances and is the third top scorer in the league just now.

"He had interest from elsewhere for next season, but we're very pleased that he sees Troon as the best place for him at this stage of his career.

"We've done a fair bit of work this season to improve the profile of our squad. The season didn't start how we expected it to, so we went back to the drawing board a little.

"We feel we've stabilised, and the next stage is to build for next season. Shankers is a crucial part of that, and there's more good news to come in the next week or two."

Troon currently sit 12th in the West of Scotland Premiership table and takes on Caledonian Braves in the South Challenge Cup on February 3.
